Requirement to update Microsoft Entra Connect Sync by April 7, 2025

Microsoft has announced an upcoming security update for Microsoft Entra Connect Sync, effective from April 7, 2025.

This update aims to strengthen service security by requiring organizations to upgrade their Entra Connect Sync instances to the specified minimum versions by that date.

Update implications

If Entra Connect Sync is not updated to the required version by April 7, 2025, the following issues may occur:

  • All authentication requests to Microsoft Entra ID through the Entra Connect interface will fail, affecting functionalities such as schema updates, staging mode configuration, and changes to user sign-in options.
  • The configuration of Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) scenarios through the Entra Connect interface will no longer work.
  • The configuration of PingFederate scenarios through the Entra Connect interface will no longer be operational.

It’s important to note that the synchronization service will continue to operate normally, allowing changes to be synced with Entra. Additionally, it will still be possible to update the Entra Connect Sync instance even after April 7, 2025.

To avoid service interruptions, you must use the following versions by April 7, 2025:

  • Commercial cloud customers: version 2.4.18.0 or higher
  • Non-commercial cloud customers: version 2.4.21.0 or higher
